I haven't written very much, but take what you like.

charities.cron -- a cron job / login script that visits thehungersite.com and its five charity affiliates. An easy, automated way to do good. Now in version 1.7.0. (FM project description here.) Also with:

- charities.cron 1.1.1.gz -- an older version.

HungerSite affiliates are back on line. Version 1.7.0 restores support for them, and removes an annoying tempfile bug.

NOTE: I'm sorry to report that a number of sites affiliated with GreaterGood.com (including TheHungerSite.com, the original inspiration for this program) are now no longer operating. I've therefore removed support for them in version 1.6.0. Some of the sites are expected to return online at some point in the near future, at which time I'll post an updated version of the script to handle any changes. Until then, however, if you don't upgrade you're likely to get error messages from cron telling you that the sites are inaccessible.

FreeDonation.com, on the other hand, still seems to be going strong.

About This Site

SteveSachs.com was originally developed by Stephen Sachs in December 1999. The server on which it resides is operated by Hurricane Electric. The corresponding blog began in November 2002, and is stored at BlogSpot. All CGI scripts employed in this site were written in gawk, a powerful and easy-to-learn scripting language which is a standard part of each Unix distribution.

About Me

I am a recent graduate of Yale Law School, and am currently working in Washington, D.C.

In July 2004, I returned to the U.S. after two years at Merton College, Oxford, pursuing a second B.A. in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.

My previous degree was in history at Harvard University (Class of 2002), where I focused on medieval Europe and wrote for The Harvard Crimson. My greatest academic weakness, however, has always been handwriting.

I am a graduate of Clayton High School (Class of 1998) in Clayton, Missouri, where I also attended Wydown Middle School and Glenridge Elementary. Since kindergarten, I have been a master of the dance floor.
